Welcome to Webelos - Den 7

Den Number 7

4th Grade
       or 9-10 Yrs

Den Leader

Our Goals  Webelos is a 20 month program for 4th and 5th grade boys to prepare to join a Boy Scout troop while learning outdoor skills and participating in 20 different activity badges. A well-run group of Webelos is a gradual change from being an 'adult-run' den to being a 'boy-run' patrol ready to fit right into an adventurous scouting troop.

Summary The Webelos program has two major milestones - the Webelos rank badge to be earned at the 4th grade level and the Arrow of Light to be earned at the 5th grade. The final part of Webelos is bridging over into a Boy Scout troop selected individually by the scout.

Is your Fourth Grader thinking about Scouts?
Then you probably have some questions...
Email the Den Leader at the link above and leave your phone number.  Den Leader's like to help parents too.

What the Webelos are "Doing"...
  • Thanks for serving!
Great job, Den 7. Can't wait to see what those meals taste like at our next campout!

  • Campout Meal Planning
As part of Bear Necessities Adventure, the boys have to help plan a meal (already done at a den meeting) and help cook it.

They also need to help with another meal, so I suggest we also have a potluck dinner on Saturday night.

You will be responsible for Friday dinner (usually we eat on the road) and Saturday/Sunday Breakfast. I always have instant coffee and hot chocolate if you don't have a stove.

Please Sign up to bring a few things, and add a contribution for Saturday Potluck

  • Furs, Ferns & Feathers Field Trip

We have an opportunity for the boys to earn their Fur, Feathers & Ferns Adventure in one field trip (with the exception of one requirement where the boys plant seeds in a pot).  Armand Bayou Nature Center offers a course for the boys on select Sunday afternoons.  The cost is $10 per scout and $4 per adult.  If the majority of boys/parents want to go, we will sign up our den(s) to meet this requirement.  If the majority of boys sign up for this trip, we will only cover the planting of a vegetable or herb garden during a regular den meeting. Please note, that one of the requirements is to visit a zoo, nature center, rescue center, etc.

Armand Bayou Nature Center is far and siblings are NOT allowed.  Those are the drawbacks.

If you are interested in attending on Sunday, December 18 from 2 pm to 4 pm, please sign up on the attached google doc.

Here is an excerpt from ABNC’s webpage:

    Fur, Feathers & Ferns $10.00

    Sunday December 18, 2016 2:00 to 4:00

Leader and co-leader are no charge; all other ADULTS are $4.00 payable at the Admissions office, 10 to 1 ratio preferred. Scouts earn the entire badge - except for Requirement 7, Plant A Vegetable or Herb Garden.

All work involves indoor & outdoor activities. Workshops are held rain or shine. All must wear closed toed shoes, NO Sandals or Flip-Flops. Please dress appropriately for the weather.

    ABSOLUTELY NO TAG ALONGS!

  • Welcome new scouts!
    Hello Bears!

First of all, I want to welcome our new scouts to den 7. Our den has almost doubled in size so we should have a lot of scout handshakes to give out on Sunday.

As a reminder, we will be finishing the Bear Claws adventure, and the whittling Chip.

New Scouts, we will catch you up on the first 2 requirements
Please bring your dues (95$) if you haven't done so already, so you can receive your Bear book, neckerchief and pack t-shirt. Also you will be doing the majority of the Bobcat Badge (a prerequisite for all scouts when they join) at the pack meeting.

Everyone, again, please bring your pocket knives. We will be carving a soap and then whittling a piece of wood.

Den meeting in Massey Tucker Hall (Grace Presbyterian) room MTH 102 at 2:30 on Sunday
Followed by Pack meeting, in library from 3:30-5:00pm

    See you then!

  • Pre-Camp Den meeting
We will have one more den meeting before heading to the Fall campout.
November 1st at 1:30 pm at my house. See the Scouttrack reminder or email me for the address.

One of the highlights will be making trail mix for the hike at the campout.

Please help out by signing up to bring one or more of the ingredients:

  • Here we go!
Welcome to another year with Den 7, Wolves. There are new faces joining us, so make sure you wear your biggest smile and introduce yourselves when you them.

Our first Adventure this year is "Call of the Wild", it is all about CAMPING! That's why we all love Scouts - the campouts, and s'mores!

If you missed our den meeting on Sunday the 11th, we worked on Requirement 3 (Identifying animals) and the 6 essentials to have at all times when camping.

Remember to use your Wolf handbook - it is full of great reading, stories and resources. Most of the requirements for this adventure have to take place at a campout so plan to join us for our Fall campout in November, or you will need to complete this on your own!

  • Congrats Tigers!
You have officially graduated. In the fall, you will be Wolves! In your new Scout Book, you will meet Ethan, who will accompany you in your Adventures until you become a Boy Scout in 2019. Have a great Summer and I hope to see you at our Summer activities - sky zone, rocket launch and pool party.
